8. Devanagari OCR System - "An Optical Character Recognition (OCR) system to recognize a wide variety of fonts in Devanagari Script. Though a multitude of products are available for character recognition in Roman script, very few, if any, are available for Devanagari. Whatever work has been done, it has mostly been a part of some academic project and hence they are not useful for any practical application. The major areas of application of Devanagari character recognition would be in following areas: 1. Digitizing existing government documents for easy and efficient storage and retrieval: This single use of a Devanagari OCR can bring about positive, dramatic changes to the way Government as well as Non-government offices function. The service time can be drastically reduced at offices which work in public domain and hence improve the all round efficiency of offices. 2. 10. S-Drive - SDrive is a network filesystem that will allow users to map their local drive (S:) to their files hosted in a remote server. The proof of concept (POC) has been done with files in Salesforce Servers, but eventually the goal is to make it independent of the vendor. A prime candidate would be google docs. The beauty of this application will be that it will allow users to access, sync up and back up their files hosted in a remote server from their PC (or MAC) without having to go through the web browser. This could also serve as a gateway for online/offline operations for a web-application. There are a number of reasons we have identified Salesforce as the first POC candidate. 1. Salesforce is very third-party developer friendly and exposes APIs to access data that resides on their servers. 2. We have already seen a number of Salesforce customers looking for this utility. 3. There is a Developer Conference for Salesforce around the corner (end of September). Not only will that enforce time constraints, but also provides a success story and publicity avenue for D2Labs.
